The UCSC Banana Slug

Topping the list for the most unique university mascots, the mascot for UCSC is the Banana Slug. This famous mascot almost did not survive when UCSC joined the NCAA in the ‘80s. But, when students protested the slug was saved by a margin of 15 to 1.

UCSC is known for having the top science programs in the country.

In addition to the fact that UCSC has some of the country’s top science programs, the most popular undergraduate degrees at UCSC last year were business management, history, economics, environmental studies and psychology.
